To feed your body and soul in San Diego and all over the world

In the big easy

This weekend, CP and I are in New Orleans and will be flying back tomorrow. I will be posting the food eaten once I’m back!

Soy Nog

My favorite months of the year are October through December because of the flavors of the holidays!  One of the many seasonal products I love is from the Silk Soy line: Soy Nog, Pumpkin Spice, and Mint Chocolate.

The Soy Nog has the flavors of Egg Nog, but not as rich in flavors or nutrients.  The Pumpkin Spice Soy tastes like a pumpkin pie except you’re sipping it.  The Mint Chocolate Soy is a refreshing and delicious pleasure!

Each of them taste delicious and there is something for everybody!  So go to your nearest market and get yourself one because once the season is over, it will be another year before you can get it.  Hurry!!!  (I’m planning on stocking up as much as I can…since it is perishable.)

The Team vs. BJ’s Pizookie Platter

Today was a team lunch to bring together the two sides of an engagement. There is nothing that can bring people together like food…especially ridiculous food. When I saw ridiculous, it could be ridiculously good tasting, ridiculously amazing looking, and the ridiculous embodiment of being a pure glutton.

Ladies and gents, please turn to Exhibit A:

This is BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse’s iconic dessert – the Pizookie.  However, what you’re looking at is the ULTIMATE Pizookie one could order from the menu.  The Pizookie Platter is the choice of 4 flavors of cookies, then piled high with 8 scoops of ice cream.  Our poison of choice (counter clockwise): Red Velvet, Triple Chocolate, Chocolate Chunk, and Cookies N’ Cream.  The ice cream that piled on top included: Vanilla Bean, Chocolate, and Cookies N’ Cream!

Literally, this platter was the size of a manhole cover!  There were 7 of us (3 males, 4 females) and we dug into this sugary monster.  We ate, and ate, and ATE…somewhere along the way, we started to get a bit delusional.  I think we were all wondering if we would survive this endeavor.  At one point, my hand was shaking as I reached over for more and that’s when I knew – I was way over my limit in sucrose intake.  I sadly put down my spoon and watched 2 of my colleagues eat through their sugar haze.  In the end, the dream was lived, but the victory was not ours.  We had finished a substantial amount of the platter, but in the end…there was still some cookie left with some ice cream (melted and melting).

Probably not the best idea in attempting this during a work lunch because all of us had some issues getting back to work and staying focus.   Or maybe…it was the best thing ever…oh yea, oh yea.

Double Stuffed

The phrase “Double Stuffed” once was associated with the Oreo brand cookies for me.  You know what I’m talking about – where Nabisco basically doubled the amount of cream filling in their Oreo cookies.  Now however, that phrase has a whole new meaning for me.

Ever since a colleague brought into work something absolutely amazing, I cannot stop thinking about how ingenious and how delicious this monstrous concoction was.  Can you already guess what I’m about to describe and show to you?  Here…I’ll give you your first visual hint:

Delicious looking already right?  Yet…do they not look a little lumpy to you?  Can you guess?….

Come on! Really?….Really???

Ok!  Here it is:

YES! That’s right! It is a chocolate chip cookie with an Oreo INSIDE!!!  Can you imagine how ridiculously delicious this was?!  I’m not the biggest fan of Oreos yet….being baked into a chocolate chip cookie somehow brought it to a completely level.

When I bit into my half of the monstrosity I was hit immediately by the soft properties of the cookie as a whole.  The baking process softened the otherwise crispiness of the Oreo and I can imagine it melting in my mouth had it been right out of the oven.  You have the buttery chocolate chip cookie base, semi-sweet chips and a hit of chocolate AND vanilla cream all in one bite.  It was flavor within flavor and the multiple layers was what made this so good and so much fun to eat!

RH…this is the reason why we all love and hate you…and the reason why I had to work off AGAIN my “freshmen” 15 (well…it wasn’t all you but you contributed a great deal)!!!

Yet, when you are presented with such a creation, you cannot help giggle with giddy as you look at it.  The baker in me will now try to stuff all combinations of cookies together and make the next best thing!

If you had a black hole of a stomach…

Mountain West Champs!

Sorry everyone…but this week’s been occupied by basketball by CP and myself (more so by CP than me) because you know why?…With a record like this one:

How can we NOT go crazy from excitement?!  Now with my bracket set for NCAA March Madness…it is time to go “do work.”  (Side note…I did go celebrate for my friend’s birthday this Sunday and I will have to do that post at a later time).

I know this is not typical of me. Yet, when your loved one has had so much faith in a team that’s seen so many “downs” and “so close” moments and years in the past and you’ve experienced it with him, one cannot help but feel that swell of pride for these athletes who’ve worked this hard.  Not just for the season’s conference title, but also the tournament championship as well, the recognition the team as a whole is much deserved from the city and the nation.

So for all the current Aztec students and alumnus…let’s band together and support our boys in Red and Black! Let’s go AZTECS!!!

Mid-travel insert

Well I know that it is a holiday weekend…but since I know I won’t make it back in time for a proper post, I give you this instead!

That’s all you get for now. Happy valentines day ;).
